Best Elephant Sanctuary Area in Thailand: Chiang Mai, Bangkok or Pattaya?
Direct answer: Choose Chiang Mai if you already have northern nights and want Living Green or Big Boy (from ฿1,600 adult, 25% per-guest deposit). Choose a Bangkok- or Pattaya-departure SKU if you want Living Green’s Chonburi camp as a road day (฿2,200 adult, ฿800 per guest). ThaiEleHub does not sell a same-day Chiang Mai visit from a Bangkok hotel.
Forum threads ask “which area is best?” as if one valley wins. The useful question is which area fits the hotel you already paid for. A strong camp in the wrong city is a wasted transfer.

Chiang Mai: two camps, one city
Chiang Mai is the base when you want countryside north of the city and a choice of half-day or full-day. Living Green Chiang Mai is the river-valley program. Big Boy is a separate Karen-run camp in the Doi Inthanon foothills — quieter, observation-first, not the same land or operator.
Start with Living Green half-day morning or the matching Big Boy morning SKU if you want a simple first day. Add bamboo rafting, cooking or Doi Inthanon only if that extra is on the product you open. Pickup is inside the Chiang Mai zone printed on the SKU (~1.5 hours each way is the usual planning figure, not a traffic promise).
Deposit: 25% per guest on Living Green Stripe Checkout.
Bangkok departure: Chonburi, not Chiang Mai
If your nights are in Bangkok, the ethical day we sell is Living Green Chonburi with a Bangkok pickup window — not a flight to the north. Adult ฿2,200. Morning starts earlier; afternoon returns later (often 18:30–19:00). Meeting point at Wat That Thong (BTS Ekkamai Exit 3) exists for stays outside a clean hotel pickup.
Open Bangkok morning or Bangkok afternoon. Deposit: ฿800 per guest.
Pattaya departure: shorter road, same Chonburi camp
Pattaya SKUs visit the same Chonburi sanctuary as Bangkok SKUs. Transfer is about 40 minutes. That is why beach-based guests should not book a Bangkok-departure product “because the camp is the same.” Pickup teams follow the SKU’s city.
Compare Pattaya morning and Pattaya afternoon. Jomtien and outlying hotels can carry a printed surcharge — check the product page.

Families
Pick the shortest honest transfer. Pattaya-to-Chonburi is usually gentler than Bangkok-to-Chonburi. Chiang Mai still has a long countryside drive. Child variants (4–8) exist on the half-days that list them. Physical difficulty notes are on each product page — confirm mobility with WhatsApp if anyone in the group needs it.
